Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and RNLI crews were called into action on Easter Sunday evening after several members of the public reported unusual lights on the south side of Brean Down.
Milford Haven Coastguard tasked the Burnham-On-Sea RNLI crew to investigate the sightings shortly before high tide.
The volunteer team launched the Atlantic 85 lifeboat Doris Day and Brian from the jetty’s side‑slip and made their way towards Brean Down in calm but darkening conditions.
On arrival, the crew quickly established that the lights were coming from a group of fishermen who were safely enjoying their usual pastime along the shoreline.
With no one in difficulty, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to Burnham, where shore crew volunteers recovered and washed down the vessel before preparing it for its next callout.
Launch Authority Phil Counsell said: “The Atlantic was launched to investigate multiple reports of lights to the south side of Brean Down. On arrival, it was found to be fishermen and the boat was stood down.”
The RNLI reminds the public that they should always call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they see anything unusual or believe someone may be in danger at sea.
