Burnham-On-Sea RNLI crews were called into action on Thursday evening (May 14th) after a yacht reported mechanical problems in the Bristol Channel.
Milford Haven Coastguard paged the Burnham lifeboat crew at 5.43pm following a distress call from the vessel, which had been en route from Burnham-On-Sea to Watchet when its engine overheated.
Burnham’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat ‘Doris Day and Brian’ was launched within minutes, pictured here, enabling the volunteer crew to reach the yacht and carry out a welfare check on those aboard.
Duty Launch Authority Lyndon Baker said: “We located the casualty without difficulty and our crew escorted the yacht back to the safety of the Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club pontoons. She made the return under her own sail and engine power.”
Once the yacht was safely alongside, the Atlantic 85 was stood down and returned to Burnham slipway, where the volunteer shore crew carried out recovery and wash‑down procedures.
