A three-month renovation of Burnham-On-Sea Methodist Church’s hall in College Street costing £90,000 has been completed.
The church says the work was first considered in 2025 after the hall floor began losing its integrity and turning soft in places.
“What started as a plan to replace the floor grew after further investigation found the problems also ran underneath the stage. The stage itself had not been used for its original purpose for about 10 years and had to come out,” says a spokesperson.
Church members decided a full renovation was needed to bring the hall up to modern standards and make it fit for present and future community use.
Builder and carpenter Tom Shakespeare was contracted to manage the project after quotes were obtained.
The total cost of around £90,000 was met through grants from the Methodist Church and fundraising by members.
Work began in the last few days of June 2026 and took three months. During the building work, activities that would normally have used the hall were moved into the church’s main worship space.
The church is now organising a grand reopening on Saturday 10th October to show the local community what it describes as its “amazing and huge new hall”.
The Makers Market will also be held the same day in the hall from 10am to 2pm. Church members will serve refreshments and run a raffle from 10am to 3pm.
