Burnham‑On‑Sea Police have moved to reassure residents following growing concerns about late‑night anti‑social driving across the town.
It comes after we reported several Burnham-On-Sea residents have urged Police and local councils to take stronger action to tackle late‑night anti‑social driving in the town, saying the problem has become a persistent disturbance and a growing safety concern.
Several residents attended this month’s Burnham and Highbridge Town Council meeting to raise concerns about vehicles racing along the Esplanade, High Street and in the car parks at Pier Street and behind B&M.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police says: “We have received a number of reports around antisocial driving in Burnham-on-Sea recently, particularly around the seafront and nearby car parks.”
“We want to reassure people that we are aware of this issue and looking at both short-term and long-term ways to help tackle this issue.”
“Regular uniformed patrols across the seafront area are carried out by neighbourhood officers, but we’re conscious that a lot of this activity can take place at night and therefore we are factoring that into our plans too.”
“Drivers should be aware that there are CCTV cameras in the area, which are operated by the local authority, and can ensure we are quickly notified of any potentially dangerous driving taking place so we can respond according and we will look to take enforcement action against those found to be responsible.”
