Burnham-On-Sea sailing regatta winners

The winners of Burnham-On-Sea’s 71st Sailing Regatta have been announced after two weekends of yacht racing.

The event was held over four days, with gig rowing and yacht races taking place in the Bridgwater Bay estuary between Burnham and Stert Island and visible to seafront walkers.

The final races were held on Sunday afternoon (July 14th) to determine this year’s overall regatta winners, who were Andy and Sue Walker, pictured below, onboard the yacht Merlin.

Sue told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted to have won again after a busy few days of sailing action.”

Second was Springtide, third was Enchanted, fourth was Walrus, fifth was Super Sapphire, sixth was Persona Grata, seventh was Rascal, eighth was Betelgeuse.

A spokesman said: “It was a great two weekends of racing with the weather staying mild and dry. Our congratulations go to Andy and Sue on their win for a further year!”

The first day of the regatta was held on Saturday July 6th with a second race taking place on Sunday July 7th when gig racing was also held with five teams taking part. A third race was held on Saturday July 13th and then the final deciding race was held on Sunday July 14th to determine this year’s overall regatta winner.
