Burnham-On-Sea RNLI crews were called into action after emergency services received information suggesting someone might be in the water close to Burnham’s Pavilion.
The RNLI says it was paged by Coastguards requesting the D-class lifeboat to launch at 7.58pm on Thursday evening (10th September).
The lifeboat launched at 8.10pm and reached the Pavilion within minutes, while the Atlantic 85 lifeboat stood by on the jetty should a second launch be required.
With no sign of anyone in difficulty near the Pavilion, the Coastguard control tasked the D-Class crew to carry out a shoreline search alongsode Burnham Coastuards.
The crew made their way up along the shoreline to the Lower Lighthouse, down to the mouth of the River Brue, and then back towards the Pavilion, checking the waterline.
At 8.35pm, the Coastguard stood the search down after receiving updated information confirming that the individual was not in the water. Both lifeboats were recovered to the station by 8.45pm and prepared for their next launch.
Bunham RNLI Duty Launch Authority Nigel Morton said it was reassuring to learn that no-one had entered the water. He added that the crew’s rapid response ensured a search capability was in place should it have been needed.
