Burnham-On-Sea Rugby Club is celebrating a remarkable double success after both of its senior men’s teams secured league titles and promotion on Saturday 25th April, rounding off what many at the club are calling one of the most memorable seasons.
Both the 1st XV and 2nd XV went into the final weekend knowing victory was essential to finish as champions. Under pressure, both squads rose to the occasion in emphatic style.
The 1st XV travelled to Minehead RFC and delivered a composed, confident performance on the club’s famously sloping pitch. In front of a large crowd and under bright spring sunshine, Burnham claimed a 17–33 win that sealed the league title.
The result capped a stunning turnaround after a slow start to the season, which included early defeats to Hornets and Clevedon. From October onwards, the side found its rhythm and never looked back, winning fifteen consecutive matches and finishing with the league’s best away points scored, fewest away points conceded and the most try bonus points.

Back at the BASC Ground, the 2nd XV produced a dominant display against local rivals Morganians RFC. Their 54–5 victory was a statement performance that confirmed their own league championship.
Their season followed a similar pattern to the 1st XV: two early losses, followed by eight straight wins. A difficult restart after the Christmas break brought two more defeats, but the squad rallied superbly to win all remaining fixtures and take the title.
Celebrations began at the BASC Ground once the 1st XV returned from Minehead, with players, coaches, volunteers and supporters gathering to mark the club’s extraordinary achievements. The club credits its success to a refreshed coaching team, the arrival of several new players and the continued development of its existing squad.
“These are exciting times for us, knowing that we are getting stronger as a club on and off the field,” the club said.
Attention is already turning to next season, when Burnham will return to leagues they know well after consecutive relegations in 2023/24 and 2024/25. The club is determined to continue its upward momentum and build on the foundations laid this year.
The celebrations lead straight into one of the club’s biggest annual events: the Living With The Lions Rugby Festival, taking place over the upcoming bank holiday weekend.
Teams from across England and Wales will arrive in Burnham-On-Sea with players aged 7 to 13 for a full weekend of junior rugby, development and community spirit.
