£33,000 resurfacing work to partly close Burnham seafront car park

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront car park next to the B&M store is to be partly closed for about a week while £33,000 of resurfacing work is carried out.

Sedgemoor District Council, which owns the car park, says the work will take place at the Pier Street West short-stay car park, which lies between the B& M store and the Esplanade.

“Work is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 7th and last for about a week, depending on the weather,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Pier Street West will be closed to vehicles for the duration of the work but the South and East car parks will remain open.”

“This work complements the new ticket machines and tariff boards recently installed at Pier Street car park.”

Sedgemoor District Council has a rolling maintenance programme at its 18 car parks, which offer a total of 1,691 parking spaces. Of those, 791 spaces being within the five car parks in Burnham and Highbridge.

“Sedgemoor District Council’s Parking Service provides parking facilities for residents, visitors, businesses and shoppers across the district. Thousands of customers use the car parks each week.”

“Clean, tidy and well maintained car parks give a good first impression for visitors and tourists to Sedgemoor. The cost of parking tickets covers a whole range of expenditure that may not be immediately obvious.”

“These include rates patrolling and cash collection from ticket machines – contracted to Somerset County Council; CCTV; cleaning; looking after the shrubbery etc; repairs and maintenance to the tarmac; white-lining; maintenance/replacement of ticket machines; insurance and electricity costs for the lighting.”

The coach parking area will be unaffected by the work.
