Burnham-On-Sea seafront parking restrictions lifted as council finishes car park ‘trial’ work early

-

Temporary car parking restrictions along Burnham-On-Sea’s North Esplanade were lifted on Friday (May 8th) after Somerset Council said a trial of changes at the Pier Street Car Park had been completed.

Almost 15 car parking spaces along Burnham-On-Sea’s North Esplanade had been temporarily suspended “for a month” to make way for extra coach waiting bays while upgrade work was due to get underway at the Pier Street Car Park.

However, Somerset Council abruptly removed the yellow parking restrictions signs on Friday afternoon – despite the signs stating the closure would be in place ‘from midnight on Thursday April 30th and would remain in place until 11.59pm on Sunday May 31st.’

A council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The trial has ended early, as we have obtained the necessary information so we were able to remove the restrictions.”

The council says plans to introduce new height barriers in the Pier Street car park to prevent unauthorised encampments are being considered along with other possible changes.
