Burnham-On-Sea Tangent Club has presented a £150 cheque to Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre to support its next series of Sunday lunches for local people who live alone and often find Sundays difficult.
Tangent Chairman Jan Birkett said the group had been impressed by the Community Centre’s Sunday lunch initiative, which has brought companionship to many residents and also involved other local organisations such as Somewhere House.
She said the centre had become “a vital part of Burnham-On-Sea life” and that Tangent is pleased to contribute towards its work.
The Community Centre has recently launched an appeal to help fund refurbishment of its Berrow Road building, including plans for a new lift to ensure all users can access rooms on the upper floors.
Tangent has also made recent donations to the British Heart Foundation, having been a leading contributor to the charity’s national appeal for goods to be sold in BHF shops.
The Chairman’s chosen charity for the coming year is the Alzheimer’s Society, and Tangent will be holding a fundraiser on October 27th.
The presentation was made to Burnham Community Association chairman David Norton, with Tangent members Gill Lyne and Barbara Williams also attending alongside Jan Birkett.
