Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club coaches Vinny Duddy and Barry Ramsden have congratulated the club’s tennis teams who have achieved success in the North Somerset Tennis League.

The Burnham club’s Men’s A team retained their place in the 3rd Division after just narrowly missing promotion.

The Men’s B team were promoted to the 4th Division, coming a close second to Lympsham and with captain Kevin Burrow playing in some matches with his son Harry. The Men’s C team came 4th in the 7th Division, retaining their league position.

The new men’s D team came 4th in the 8th Division; with new member Alex Patel captaining the team in his first season of competitive tennis.

The Ladies A team faced some very tough competition during the season and after coming 5th in division 3 will unfortunately be demoted to division 4.

The Ladies B team came 5th in Division 7 and fielded several new tennis players throughout the season together with some other players dusting off their rackets to ensure the games were completed.

Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club coaches Vinny Duddy and Barry Ramsden, pictured, said it has been a busy season.

Vinny told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are always looking for new players for the teams and would welcome anyone wanting to come along and join in.”

“During the Winter season we have 2 mixed doubles teams and have ladies night on Tuesday and mens on a Monday; please come along and see if tennis is for you.”

Vinny added that following the success of the last Open Day that the club would be having another one from 10am-2pm on Sunday 25th August and he wanted to invite all potential players old and young to come along and have some fun at the Avenue’s fantastic facilities or just bring the kids and enjoy some refreshments from the club’s bar and kitchen.

The club are also promoting a post Wimbledon Offer for new juniors to join the club from 1st September for a cost of £50 which would include an hours organised group lesson with the Avenue’s qualified coaches from September 19 through to March 20 – contact Barry for details.

Duddy also wanted to remind everyone that the club are holding a national LTA grade 3 competition from Sunday 11th August which sees some of the best juniors and adults in the county and from around country competing at various age groups.

Entry to watch is free and the tennis is very competitive and entertaining. Food and drink are available throughout the day from the club – please come along and enjoy some great live tennis.

The Avenue Tennis Club also try to encourage new members and players down to the club on a Friday night from around 6pm. Friday night at the Avenue Tennis Club is a family night.

The tennis club has a month’s free membership offer available for anyone who wants to give tennis a go and wants to get an insight into the club before joining.
