Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club has held its annual general meeting and looked back on a busy year for tennis, pickleball and social events.
Club chairman David Jenkins thanked committee members, and the many other members who give their time, for their work in keeping the Avenue among the best tennis, pickleball and social clubs in the South West, and as a venue for the local community to hire.
Treasurer Richard Belfield presented what the club described as a very healthy set of accounts. He is looking for someone to take over the role because of family commitments. Anyone interested can contact the club on 01278 782758.
The chairman welcomed three new committee members: Emily Rossiter as Ladies Captain, Kerry Jones as Health and Safety Officer, and Claire Brewer as Safeguarding Officer. He also thanked the previous officers for their commitment.
Shirley, Josie, Gill and Kay were recognised for their work catering at social events and tournaments through the year, which the club said had drawn excellent reviews from visitors and players.
The Avenue is always looking for new members of all abilities and ages for tennis and pickleball. Social and competitive events run through the year. Friendly social tennis is held on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings, with a family social tennis evening on Fridays.
Anyone wanting to try the club can book a tennis or pickleball court through LTA Clubspark. Group and private coaching for juniors and adults is run by head coach Tim Seymour, with details here.
Options include cardio tennis, adult coaching on Friday nights from 6pm to 7pm for those starting or returning to the game, junior courses through the week and at weekends, one-to-one lessons, and school holiday camps at the Avenue and nearby venues. Places on the summer holiday camps are limited, and the club advises booking early.
