Burnham-On-Sea’s Kathleen Chambers Care Home recently opened its doors to families and local residents for its annual Summer Fayre, filling the grounds with music, laughter and a warm community atmosphere.
The event was officially opened by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Mayor, Cllr Mike Facey, who spent the afternoon meeting residents, chatting with families and enjoying the celebrations.
The fayre offered a lively mix of stalls and activities, with visitors browsing antiques, handmade skincare products, raffles and a well‑stocked cake stall featuring homemade treats.
One of the most popular attractions was the “Find the Right Key” game, played using a cardboard door lovingly crafted years ago by a resident’s late husband. Staff said the sentimental touch made the activity especially meaningful, and children returned to it again and again throughout the afternoon.
Guests enjoyed traditional teas, scones and fresh juice, and an ice cream van proved a welcome addition in the warm weather. The Beach’d Buoys shanty band provided the soundtrack to the day, drawing crowds with their upbeat performance and inspiring plenty of sing‑alongs among residents and visitors.
The home’s Activities Team also showcased a range of crafts created by residents, with many items sold during the event. Staff said the display highlighted the creativity and talent within the home and gave residents a chance to share their work with the wider community.
Mayor Cllr Mike Facey praised the dedication of the staff and the strong sense of community at Kathleen Chambers, saying it is a home he always looks forward to visiting. He added that events like the Summer Fayre play an important role in bringing residents, relatives and local organisations together.
Registered Manager Annette Saunders thanked everyone who contributed to the day, from volunteers and organisers to those who donated cakes and raffle prizes. She said the support from families and the local community was “incredible” and helped make the fayre a memorable success.
A total of £309 was raised, with all funds going directly towards activities and experiences for residents, helping ensure they remain active, engaged and connected with local life.
