Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church to mark VE Day with online service

-

The 75th Anniversary of VE Day is to be marked at Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church this Sunday (May 10th) with a special online service.

While the congregation cannot physically meet due to the Coronavirus pandemic, they will be able to mark the 75th Anniversary by following parts of the 1945 Thanksgiving Service for their online worship.

Sunday’s service will include a prayer and hymn and will be available via the St Andrew’s Church YouTube page here.

Vicar of Burnham, Prebendary Graham Witts, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Though the Second World War ended in 1945 we can still recall those from Burnham who left to fight overseas.”

“Many did not return while others that did shared the emotional and psychological scars of warfare.”

“In this time of Covid-19 we have seen Captain Tom Moore take up a challenge in the cause of helping the NHS.”

“It is the likes of his kind that we recall and offer solidarity with all who are still seeking peace in the world’s theatres of conflict.”

“The full text of the 1945 Thanksgiving Service can be found on the Church of England website – and we look forward to welcoming you in cyberspace to this very special occasion.”
