Burnham shopkeeper thanks customers as she retires after 24 years of business

Long‑running Burnham-On-Sea shop owner Jenny Mitchell has thanked customers as she retires after more than two decades of business.

The Burnham-On-Sea business owner has this week thanked her loyal customers as she retires after 24 years running her busy shop Sew and Sew in Cross Street.

Jenny Mitchell, who has run the clothing repairs and alterations service since 2002, has decided to close the doors at the age of 82.

Speaking to Burnham‑On‑Sea.com, Jenny said she has “enjoyed all the years” since opening the shop and wanted to offer “a big thank‑you to all my customers over all the years for their support — whether it was just a one‑off repair or the regulars.”

Jenny says she especially misses the friendly faces who would pop in even when they didn’t need anything mended. “Some would come in for a chat and a cup of tea — sometimes bringing a very welcome cake,” she said with a smile.

The past year has been particularly difficult for Jenny following the loss of her husband, who was often by her side in the shop keeping her company. She says his absence made the decision to retire feel like the right step.

Now settling into retirement, Jenny is taking life at a gentler pace, enjoying time at home, relaxing in her garden, and keeping up with her love of knitting. She added she will always treasure the friendships and community spirit that grew around her shop over the years.
