Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club to host ‘Not tonight, Josephine’ — a lively, scandal‑filled fundraiser for Weston Hospice.
The event on Thursday 28th May from 1.30pm to 4pm promises an entertaining and revealing look at the turbulent relationship between Napoleon and Josephine.
The club will be hosting club member and historian Fred Riordan with his much‑anticipated talk. Far from a dry history lecture, Fred’s talk — titled “Love, Lust & Empire: Napoleon and Josephine Behind Closed Doors” — blends scandal, humour and heartbreak, drawing on more than 25 years of his research into the famous couple.
Organisers say guests can expect outrageous anecdotes, surprising truths and plenty of laughter, all served alongside tea, coffee and homemade cakes.
Tickets are priced at £12.50, with all proceeds going to Weston Hospice, a cause the club has supported on numerous occasions.
Fred has raised charitable funds across Bristol, Rutland and Spain through his talks, and the Avenue is expecting strong interest from both members and the wider community.
While the club is currently celebrating the conclusion of its winter singles ladder competition — won by Antony Dyer after a closely fought season — the focus is now firmly on bringing people together for this fundraising afternoon.
