Burnham’s BARB rescue hovercraft and Coastguards called to help dog walker

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB rescue hovercraft crew and Burnham Coastguards were called out on Thursday (May 29th) amid concern for a dog walker and his pet.

A beach walker raised the alarm shortly after mid-day after spotting the dog in mud on Burnham beach near the far tideline at low tide with the owner stood still in mud nearby.

One of BARB’s hovercrafts was launched from Burnham beach with two Coastguard Mud Technicians onboard, before flying along the sands towards the low lighthouse.

“After confirming the dog owner was safe, the hovercraft flew along the estuary where it encouraged the dog to run from the tideline and up the beach to safety,” says a spokesperson.

“The dog ran directly to its owner where it was clipped on a lead and taken away. There was concern that the dog owner or others could put themselves in danger by attempting to reach the dog in the mud. We were happy to help.”
