Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue is inviting local residents to find out more about its work along the coastline this coming weekend as the charity hosts a special community open day on Saturday 2nd May.
The event, running from 10am–2pm at BARB’s seafront station, will have a Hawaiian theme and give visitors the chance to meet the volunteer crew, explore the organisation’s rescue hovercrafts, and learn more about the life‑saving work carried out along the Somerset coastline.
A range of family‑friendly attractions will be on offer throughout the day, including refreshments, sweet treats, face painting, and a tombola.
Crew members say the open day is a chance for supporters to see the equipment their donations help fund and to chat with volunteers about the charity’s ongoing work.
One of the highlights will also be ‘Pooches on Parade’, a fun dog walk setting off from The Esplanade (TA8 1BB) at 1pm. Entry is £2 per dog, with all proceeds supporting BARB’s rescue operations.
Participants will enjoy a guided stroll along the seafront, meet fellow dog lovers, and be entered into a prize draw featuring a pet portrait and other goodies.
A BARB spokesperson said the team is looking forward to welcoming the community for “a relaxed, enjoyable day that celebrates the charity’s work and the people who support it.”
