Members and supporters of Burnham-On-Sea’s Chamber of Trade gathered to hear about a busy year of activities for the group when its AGM was held last week.

The meeting at Burnham’s Princess Theatre was attended by a number of local traders.

Alex Turco gave an update on the Chamber’s role in encouraging town centre improvements in Burnham as the project to deliver a number of changes steps closer. Members are keen for the Chamber to continue to have a role in the project as the schedule for the work is agreed.

Tourist centre manager Ian Jefferies from BIARS also discused how he hopes to boost trade in the town by holding a number of tourism events this summer. He also gave an update on initiatives to boost coach visitor numbers.

Matt Ballard from Connecting Devon and Somerset also provided information about the business benefits of super-fast broadband, which is currently being rolled out in the Burnham area.

An update was also given on the chamber’s busy schedule of upcoming activities. Details of a new membership scheme were also unveiled to make it easier for local business people to join. Traders can enjoy the benefits of a full membership for £40 a year.

Mark Newman was elected as Chairman, Deryk Monaghan as Treasurer, Bev Milner Simonds as Membership Secretary, and Kay Rossiter as Secretary.
