Town councillors have this week called for urgent improvements to be made to the poor condition of a main road through Highbridge.

At a meeting of the council’s Town Improvements Committee on Monday evening (October 24th), councillor Neville Jones said the surface of Church Street needs attention since it is crumbling apart in several places and will likely get worse over the winter months.

“This busy road is in an appalling condition and urgently needs resurfacing,” he told the meeting.

“Church Street must have one of the worst road surfaces in the whole of Somerset for such a busy route.”

The road has been dug up many times in recent years during roadworks and has been patched up each time when the work restarts.

The town council’s clerk is taking up the issue with Somerset County Council’s highways department.
