Churches across the Burnham-On-Sea area are preparing to open their doors next month as part of the Global Week of Prayer, with a series of quiet prayer spaces and prayer stations available for anyone who wishes to take part.
Churches Together say the week offers a chance for residents to pause, reflect and pray for the local area and for the nation, with venues in Burnham, Berrow, Huntspill and beyond taking part.
A number of churches will be hosting dedicated prayer spaces between Monday 7th and Sunday 13th September, each offering a calm setting where visitors can stay for the whole session or simply drop in for a short time.
All Saints Church in East Huntspill will be open daily from 11am until 3pm throughout the week, while St Peter’s and All Hallows in West Huntspill will welcome visitors from 10am to 4pm over the same period. St Mary’s Church in Berrow will host its prayer space from Monday 7th to Friday 11th September, open from 10am to 4pm.
West Huntspill Methodist Church will offer a morning prayer space on Tuesday 8th September from 9am until midday, and St Andrew’s Church in Burnham-On-Sea will open its prayer space on Monday 7th September from 10am to 1pm.
Hope Baptist Church will be holding an online Zoom prayer gathering on Wednesday 9th September, with the link available from Churches Together representatives.
Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Burnham will host its prayer space on Thursday 10th September from 10am to 1pm, while Burnham Baptist Church will open each evening from Monday 7th to Thursday 10th September between 7pm and 9pm.
The church will also hold a special prayer and fasting period from 7am to 11am on Friday 11th September, continuing from 7pm that evening through to 7pm on Saturday 12th, with further details to be announced.
Churches Together say everyone is warmly invited to take part in whichever prayer space is closest to them, whether for a few minutes or a longer time of reflection.
