Burnham-On-Sea reaches final of National Coach Tourism Awards

-

Burnham-On-Sea has been shortlisted for a fourth consecutive year for the award of ‘Coach Friendly Destination of the Year’ in this year’s National Coach Tourism Awards.

The town will be up against Ashton-under-Lyne, Beverley, Bournemouth, Derry, Devizes, Liverpool and Perth City for the top title.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 16th March at an awards ceremony at the NEC in Birmingham.

“Compared to some of the big budgets and much bigger towns, this recognition is fantastic for the work we carry out in encouraging more coaches into Burnham-on-Sea,” said Ian Jefferies from Burnham’s Project Coach initiative.

“With the fear of the impact that B&M will have on High Street shops, it is our intention to work to encourage the masses that come to Burnham on a coach to use our wonderful independent shops.”

“This recognition will once again help in our aim of gaining more coaches into our town and shows the good work carried out by the team, councils and businesses.”

Project Coach team members Ian Jefferies and Les Barber have also been shortlisted in the final seven for the category of ‘Coach Tourism Professional of the Year’, not just for their work within Burnham-On-Sea, but also the wider area with their new venture ‘Visit by Coach’.

Stuart Render, Editor of Coach Monthly, says: “There are many tourism awards, but only the National Coach Tourism Awards specifically focuses on coach tourism. That’s the key reason why this awards scheme continues to attract high levels of support from across the industry.” For a full list of finalists, click here.
