Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB Search & Rescue were called out when a person was spotted in difficulty in mud on Burnham beach near the town’s sailing club on Saturday afternoon (April 18th).
A group of people had been playing a rugby game on the sands when one member ventured into an area of soft mud at around 3.30pm and got into difficulty.
The beach warden spotted the incident unfolding and raised the alarm. Fortunately, the man’s teammates managed to pull the person to safety before emergency crews arrived.
Coastguards gave the group safety advice about the dangers of mud and soft sand along the estuary.
A second, separate callout followed in the early hours of Sunday morning (3.50am) when Burnham Coastguards were tasked to help locate a person reported to be in a disorientated state on the beach between Brean and Burnham. The individual was found and taken by vehicle back to Burnham.
