Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards in Brean Down cliff rescue exercise

-

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards rehearsed a rescue on the steep cliffs of Brean Down on Wednesday night (March 28th).

Two members of the group’s cliff rescue team were lowered from the trig point at the top of the Down to the sea below in order to practise reaching a ‘casualty’ on the cliffs.

The twilight exercise tested the team following several incidents in the area during recent years.

Three people were trapped by the incoming tide last July, three people were rescued at the fort in May 2005, and a man suffered leg injuries during a fall in 2004.

Wednesday’s exercise was performed in front of a group of visiting Lincolnshire Coastguards who were also given a tour of the town’s hovercraft station.

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards currently have a vacancy and are keen to hear from anyone interested in joining the group. To find out more, call 07967 292614.
