A new ‘upmarket’ coffee shop is set to open in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea later this month.

Entrepreneur Robin Luxon, pictured, has taken over the former lifeboat station, next to the town’s current RNLI HQ in Pier Street, and is spending a further £25,000 on turning the premises into a coffee restaurant.

“It’s a lot to spend, but I think this building is an ideal location for an upmarket coffee shop selling drinks, cakes and other snacks,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We’ll have seating for 36 people inside and during the summer months there will be outside seating and a canopy area.”

He added that the new coffee shop, to be called Alfie Blues, is scheduled to open by the end of February.

“We’re well underway with internal improvements and I hope to open within the next two or three weeks.”

The building itself has a long history behind it, having previously been used as Burnham’s scout hall and as the town’s lifeboat station during the 1800s. Its most recent former owner used it as children’s play centre.
