Community drama group set to hold auditions for Dads Army in Burnham-On-Sea

-

A Project Play is set to be performed in Burnham-On-Sea next spring, bringing the local community together to perform a stage production of the classic TV sitcom Dad’s Army.

Do you have what it takes to play one of the iconic characters such as Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson, Lance Corporal Jones or Private Pike? Or perhaps you’d like to experience the adrenaline of working backstage?

Regional drama group Project Play offers male and female roles, both on and off stage for anyone with a passion and enthusiasm for theatre.

A script read-through with the opportunity for find out more and ask questions will take place at The Princess Theatre on the evening of Wednesday 18th September, followed by auditions for all acting roles on Sunday 22nd September.

Producer Matthew Rock explains: “Project Play is for anyone who enjoys being on stage,  acting or being part of a production in any capacity. Acting roles will be decided through our audition process, but we also invite would-be Directors, Stage Managers, Stage Crew, Costumiers, Assistants and basically anyone who would like to be involved in the project to get in touch with us.”

This is the first time that Project Play has visited Burnham-On-Sea. Its productions of The Vicar of Dibley (2018) and ‘Allo ‘Allo (2019) proved extremely popular in Yeovil, Frome and Wimborne – Dad’s Army looks certain to replicate the same success and bring the Burnham-On-Sea community together through a shared passion for theatre.

Previous participant, Tracey Rawlins, who played Edith in one of last year’s productions of ‘Allo ‘Allo said: “Project Play is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in community theatre. I had a warm friendly experience and can’t wait to audition again.”

“Anybody interested in auditioning for acting roles can find out more by visiting the Project Play Facebook page and sending us a message,” says Matthew. “We hope as many people as possible will be able to join us for our read-through on 18th September. There will be a friendly and encouraging welcome for everybody from the Project Play team.”

In addition to Burnham-On-Sea, Project Play will present Dad’s Army at five other locations across the south-west including Yeovil, Weymouth, Frome, Chippenham & Wimborne. The Burnham-on-Sea production runs from Wednesday 1st until Saturday 4th April.
