Parking will stay free at Highbridge’s Apex Park, pledges council

-

Parking charges will not be introduced at Highbridge’s Apex Park, it has emerged during discussions about parking provision across the Burnham-On-Sea area.

There have been local concerns that the popular Highbridge park’s car park could have charges introduced.

It comes amid a major review of parking getting underway across the district by Somerset County Council, with input from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and Sedgemoor District Council.

At the latest Town Council meeting, Cllr Andy Brewer said: “A full review of parking provision is underway to see whether any local improvements can be made. This includes taking a fresh look at on-street parking, disabled parking, delivery bays, and taxi parking spaces in Burnham and Highbridge.”

He added: “One notable outcome of the discussions has been confirmation that there are no plans to introduce charges for parking at Apex Park, which we welcome.”

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “At this time, it’s felt that we should not charge at Apex Park, which is a well-used parking facility.”

One motorist, Sharon Knight, who regularly uses Apex Park, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is great news – Apex is one of the last remaining public areas where you can visit and pretty much guarantee a free parking space will be available. It’s lovely to visit Apex without having to keep a close eye on the watch for fear of getting a parking ticket!”

Consultation with local businesses and the general public will be taking place over other possible changes during the coming months.
