Burnham and Highbridge residents are being encouraged to check their Garden Waste subscription is up to date as the county heads into the busiest time of year for renewals.
Somerset Council says many households renew in spring, and with subscriptions not set to auto‑renew, residents are being advised to check early to ensure collections continue without interruption. Those who renew ahead of time will still receive a full 12 months of collections from their renewal date.
Cllr Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Waste Services, said: “This is one of our most popular subscription services at this time of year. A quick check now can help you avoid any break in collections and keep your garden tidy as the growing season gets going. The quickest and easiest way to renew or sign up is online.”
The service offers fortnightly collections for 50 weeks of the year, with a short pause over Christmas and New Year. Grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, leaves and most other garden waste are accepted.
Residents can choose between a 180‑litre wheeled bin or pre‑paid compostable paper sacks (sold in packs of 10) for homes that do not use a bin. Sack collections must be booked in advance.
Those who provide an email address when subscribing will receive a reminder the month before their subscription expires. Residents can also check their renewal date using Somerset Council’s online tool at Check Garden Waste Subscription.
Garden waste can also be composted at home or taken to any of Somerset’s 16 recycling sites free of charge. The council reminds residents not to place garden waste in general rubbish and to avoid burning it, which can cause pollution and nuisance.
