County council grant cash boost for worthy groups in Burnham area

-

Groups in Brean, Berrow and Brent Knoll have this week been handed a cash boost from Somerset County Council.

Each County Councillor is allocated £5,000 to promote and assist community activities in their divisional areas and Alan Ham, the County Councillor for the Brent Division (pictured), has just named the groups benefiting in our area.

Berrow Boys Football Club has been given assistance towards the hire of changing facilities in the wake of its devastating fire, while Berrow Parish Council is getting cash to provide new play equipment on the village green.

Brean Village Hall Management Committee will receive cash to help it purchase new stage curtains, while Elmwood Special School is to be helped fund the costs of a summer camp for a Brent Knoll resident. Also, Brent Knoll Village Hall Management Committee is being helped with the purchase of replacement tables and trolleys.

Mr Ham said: “There are a number of groups operating in the Brent Division whose activities add so much to the community wellbeing of the area, and I do welcome the opportunity to assist with their activities. Often small amounts of money can make all the difference.”

“It is likely that the scheme will continue into the 2007/08 financial year and applications can be made for this additional resource.”
