Crews from Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB Search & Rescue were called to Brean Down today (Saturday) after a walker reported hearing ‘cries for help’ from the rocks.

BARB’s hovercraft was tasked at 12.30pm by Coastguards with searching the shoreline on the southern side of Brean Down.

BARB’s Spirit of Lelaina 2 hovercraft was already in Brean for an emergency services day at Brean Leisure Park so followed Burnham Coastguards to the scene and then launched from the beach, searching the shoreline to the fort.

Burnham Coastguards also conducted a foot search of the rocks and the Down itself and fortunately no-one was found to be in difficulty. The incident was deemed to be a false alarm with good intent.

Crews were also called out again at 6.15pm when a seven year-old boy went missing at Brean. He was found safe and well, reported Police.
