A Burnham-On-Sea resident has proposed that Town Council staff should be given powers to issue dog fouling fines to crackdown on the problem.

Bev Milner Simonds told this month’s Town Council meeting that more needs to be done to address fouling along Burnham’s pavements.

She said: “The Town Council spends £24,000 a year dealing with dog poo bins – a sizable chunk of its budget.”

“A dog control order could be raised so that the Town Council’s 14 employees would be able to issue fines.”

“There are only two dog wardens in Sedgemoor at the moment, so we don’t see them very often.”

“Having more people able to issue fines would be a small step to address the problem, take action promptly and collect fines to help meet the £24,000 cost.”
