One arrest after drugs screening at Burnham-On-Sea clubs

-

Over 100 people were screened for drugs use during a series of police checks at two Burnham-On-Sea night clubs at the weekend.

Officers carried out the checks on partygoers at Michael’s Bar on The Esplanade and Skye Bar on Burnham High Street.

“Each of the people entering the clubs had their hands swabbed using our drugs itemiser machine, a £30,000 system that identifies whether people have been in contact with various substances,” Sgt Ian Kennett from Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“As a result, one person was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs and is on police bail while analysis of the drugs is carried out.”

“There has been a great deal of support from pubs and clubs in the town for this drugs screening to take place. Everyone wants to make Burnham drug-free.”

He added that police in Burnham will be targeting night-time violence and anti-social behaviour leading up to Christmas.
