Injured duck helped by wildlife carers near Burnham after crash landing

-

Wildlife carers near Burnham-On-Sea have been looking after this injured duck after it crash-landed in a garden.

The distinctly coloured shelduck needed help after being hurt while landing in Bridgwater.

A spokeswoman from Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre, based in East Huntspill, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The homeowner saw the duck was having trouble moving and gave her some water and kept an eye on her overnight before calling Secret World.”

“One of our response drivers brought her in for assessment. It’s very unusual for a shelduck to check in at Secret World.”

“This is the first one we’ve seen here for a couple of years. They can be found in estuaries and feed on small shellfish,” she added.

“She’s quite thin and not flying, so she’s now moved over to stay with our friends at RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife where she can get more specialist care.”
