Annie’s 14-mile sponsored walk in Burnham raises charity funds

A sponsored walk and an afternoon of cream teas in Burnham-On-Sea raised hundreds of pounds for a local charity at the weekend.

Annie Vickerstaff was cheered off on her walk with husband Andy and dog Ruby on a 14-mile walk from Burnham’s Baptist Church along the coast.

The fundraiser for Fibromyalgia Heart of Somerset coincided with an tea and cake event at the church hall.

“Annie was given a warm welcome as she arrived back from her walk at 2.30pm, needing a much-needed cup of tea and cake!” said Fiona Gregory, chairman of the group.

“The day was a huge success with plenty of yummy cake, music sung beautifully by our group member Caron Oliver, and a lovely tombola organised by Marilyn Nicholls. We managed to raise approximately £250 from the afternoon tea, and the sponsor money that we have to collect in.”

The group’s Sam Everiss added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Annie for doing the sponsored walk for us for a second year running, plus all the volunteers who helped and baked and for all the people who came along to support us on the day. Without you this event would not have been possible!”

The event was held to raise funds and raise awareness of the debilitating condition Fibromyalgia and ME, and to let people know in the Burnham area know that there is a friendly support group that they come along to and not feel alone.
