Two arrested after fire sweeps through chalets at Pontins in Brean


Two youths were arrested after a fire at Pontins holiday centre in Brean on Wednesday, October 26th.

Firefighters from across Somerset tackled the blaze in the early hours of Wednesday, when several buildings were damaged.

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two boys aged 15 and 18 were arrested in connection with the incident and have now been released on bail.”

The spokesman added that they are treating the blaze as ‘suspicious’ and that investigations are ongoing.

Two appliances from Burnham attended the fire, plus further crews from Weston-Super-Mare, Yeovil, Bridgwater and Street.

An area consisting of four ground floor chalets was damaged, with the fire spreading to two of the four chalets. All persons had been accounted for and no-one was injured.

A fire brigade spokesman added that the damage consisted of 80 per cent fire damage and 10 per cent smoke and heat damage to two chalets while another chalet had suffered minor smoke damage.
