Firefighters rushed to a nursing home in Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday evening (July 1st) after a small roof blaze.

Three fire appliances from Burnham and Bridgwater, together with an aerial appliance from Bridgwater, were sent to Burnham Lodge Nursing Home in Berrow Road at 4.45pm.

Crews were called to tackle a small fire in the wooden guttering, caused accidentally by workmen working on the roof.

However, the fire had been extinguished by the workmen with a hose pipe.

Crews carried out an inspection, externally and of the internal loft space, using a thermal image camera and small tools, to confirm that the fire was out and had not spread.

None of the residents or staff were involved or injured.
