Five Burnham and Highbridge runners get set to run London Marathon for charity

-

Five Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge runners are getting ready to take part in the London Marathon this coming weekend.

Freddie Horwood, pictured above, is a keen participant in Burnham’s weekly Park Runs, is running the London Marathon this weekend for The Grand Appeal, The Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.

Freddie says: “This time last year the furthest I’d run was a few miles. The marathon is on my bucket list, but I entered not expecting to get a place as the ballot is very competitive.”

“I started going to the 5km Burnham Park Run, and I’ve now completed 25 Park Runs. I’ve gradually clocked up more and more miles through my training programme, which is going really well. I’ve done fundraising activities at The Beachcomber in Brean, as well as receiving ‘JustGiving’ donations.”

Highbridge Ladies Running Club

Emma Wood and Linda Matthews from Highbridge Ladies Running Club will be running the famous 26.2 mile route.

“It will be our first time running in the London Marathon – we’re both really excited and looking forwards to it,” Emma told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

They are both running for Towards Tomorrow Together, which provides support, information and resources to families affected by the death of a baby at any time during pregnancy or infancy.

Burnham-On-Sea London Marathon 2019 runners Steve Wilcox and Sue Nicholls

Steve Wilcox and Sue Nicholls, who are both members of Burnham Harriers running club, will be pounding 26 miles around London to raise funds for Cancer Research.  Sue, 73, is running her eighth London Marathon and Steve is doing his first.

Sue told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I love running. Marathons are a great way to see some amazing places around the world – this will be my 17th marathon overall.”

Steve won his club place in the marathon after the ballot and adds: “I’m really looking forward to taking part — it will be extra special for me to help Cancer Research, having lost three close friends to Cancer over the last year.”

The five say their training is going well and they are on track to run the marathon this Sunday, April 28th.
