Wildlife carers at Secret World Wildlife Rescue near Burnham-On-Sea are looking after a group of tiny baby mice this week after their nest was accidentally unearthed in a garden.
A member of the public made the discovery while tending to their garden, uncovering a nest of five newborn mice that had been left exposed.
When their mother didn’t return, the fragile pups — still completely dependent — were brought straight to the centre in East huntspill for care.

Secret World’s team is now hand‑rearing the youngsters in the hope they can eventually be returned to the wild once they are old enough and more independent.
The charity says incidents like this are common at this time of year, when gardening picks up and hidden wildlife can easily be disturbed.
They are asking residents to take a few simple precautions to help protect animals sharing outdoor spaces, including checking for nests before trimming foliage or digging, inspecting gaps before repairing roofs or walls, walking through long grass before mowing, and checking log piles carefully before moving or burning them.
A spokesperson said the five rescued mice serve as “a reminder that even the smallest creatures need our care and consideration.”
