Large quantities of white foam seen floating off Burnham-On-Sea beach on Tuesday morning (March 13th) were harmless, the Environment Agency has confirmed.

Several seafront walkers spotted the foam – which some said looked like ‘iceberg shapes’ from a distance – floating up the estuary with the incoming tide at 7.30am.

But Environment Agency spokesman Mike Dunning there was no cause for concern.

“We have received no reports of pollution,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “The substance was almost certainly a naturally occurring algae that is harmless.”
