Burnham-On-Sea’s Peacocks store has submitted a new planning application this week as long-running work to refurbish its High Street building continues, more than 18 months after the shop first closed its doors.
The store at 47–51 High Street has remained shut while extensive building work takes place, and no date has yet been confirmed for when it will reopen.
The latest plans, lodged with Somerset Council, set out proposals for the construction of a new front wall above the existing shopfront along with the installation of six new casement windows.
In the planning statement, the applicant notes that the property is already a modern, purpose-built retail unit which previously traded as Peacocks and will return to doing so once the current works are completed by the landlords.
They add that the existing front elevation is of mid to late 20th‑century design, meaning that the new wall and windows “will not have any detrimental impact” on neighbouring properties and will comply with current policies on size, scale and design.
The application has been registered under reference 11/26/00064, and Somerset Council is inviting feedback from residents until 4th September 2026.
