Burnham’s world darts champ to get limo tour and civic reception today

-

A special limousine tour through town and a civic reception is to be held for Burnham-On-Sea’s newly-crowned world darts champion Gary Anderson today (Saturday, January 17th).

Gary beat the 16-time world champion Phil Taylor to become PDC World Darts Champion earlier this month, delighting fans across the country.

To celebrate the accomplishment, Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor Martin Cox is organising a special Civic Reception and limousine drive through the two towns.

The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re very proud of Gary, who lives here in Burnham, and I want to recognise his tremendous win with a limo tour and formal reception. All involved with darts locally want to meet him and be a part of it.”

Gary will be driven through Burnham and Highbridge in a white long-stretch limousine starting at 10.15am.

The limo will travel along the Frank Foley Parkway, travelling into Highbridge along Church Street to the roundabout by the town clock, then back along Church Street to the Asda roundabout.

From there, it will drive along Burnham Road past King Alfred School and then travel left into Marine Drive and up Pier Street. The limo will go north along The Espanade into Vicarage Street and along Victoria Street into the town centre, before travelling the High Street to the Somerset & Dorset pub, then turning into Abingdon Street and along Oxford Street to The Princess Theatre.

Fans will be welcome to gather outside the theatre – and The Somerset Skills and Learning Centre in Princess Street – where Gary will greet them at around 10.45am.

Over 50 people – including members of local darts teams and leagues – have been invited to attend to attend the reception at The Princess between 11am-1pm.
