Around 5,000 visitors headed to Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre near Burnham-On-Sea last weekend for a popular annual Healing Weekend.

The show, now in its eighth year, not only allowed the crowds to enjoy a myriad of remedies and attractions, but also raised much-needed funds for Secret World, based in East Huntspill.

Organiser Elaine Fenton described the spectacle as “without doubt our most successful event yet… the sights, sounds and experiences on offer brought hundreds of fantastic comments from visitors, many of whom didn’t want the event to end.”

“What a fantastic three days we have just all shared. The atmosphere was simply astounding. Once again, people travelled from far and wide across the world to join in with what has become one of the UK’s favourite holistic events. As far as the eye could see, there were smiling faces… it was a sheer joy to see so many people having such a wonderful time.”

David Foulds, newly appointed CEO at Secret World, said the weekend “was an excellent opportunity for visitors to enjoy a peaceful, family-friendly event and also experience some of the great work carried out by Secret World to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured wildlife.”

The Healing Weekend that we know today owes its roots and origins to the late healer, Bill Harrison.

During the 1990s, Bill, who hosted the original event at his home in Wedmore, began to visit Secret World to help the animals there, and close bonds were created between staff, volunteers, the animals and Bill.

Following Bill’s passing in 2008, in honour of his life and work, Elaine Fenton and Ron Tropman with the support of the team at Secret World, began to create the new Healing Weekend, but with the additional goal of helping to raise vital funds for the charity.

“We are incredibly happy to be able to support Secret World in the amazing work they do, and we are already looking forward to 2017!” Elaine said.
