Highbridge Festival of The Arts 2019 gets underway with over 2,000 performances

The 72nd annual Highbridge Festival Of The Arts started at Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre on Monday (4th March).

The festival runs until Saturday 16th March and is featuring over 2,000 performances during the 12 days.

From speech and drama entries to dance and music, the performances will take place at three local venues: The Princess Theatre in Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge Community Hall and St John’s Church in Highbridge.

Clare Catcheside, General Secretary of the Highbridge Festival of The Arts, said: “Excitement is rising and final preparations are being made for this year’s festival!”

The festival begins on Monday 4th March with Speech & Drama at The Princess Theatre.  The day will feature many local school children reciting poetry, both individually and in groups.

During the evening sessions, older children and adults take to the stage to share their original poetry, short stories and drama.

Wednesday 6th March see the first day of the Dance Section of the Festival, which runs until Sunday 10th March.

Programmes are available from The Princess Theatre to plan your visit.

The following week, the festival moves to Highbridge Community Hall for the Music Section, from Monday 11th – Saturday 16th March.

The festival concludes with performances by adult choirs at St John’s Church, Highbridge from 6pm on Saturday 16th March.
