Highbridge ‘should not have been overlooked’ for regeneration funding, says MP

-

Highbridge’s MP Ashley Fox has voiced disappointment after the Government confirmed the town will not receive support through its Pride in Place regeneration programme.

The announcement means Highbridge has missed out on funding aimed at helping communities facing economic challenges.

While Mr Fox welcomed investment being directed to nearby Bridgwater, he said Highbridge faces many of the same issues and should not have been left out.

“I am disappointed that Highbridge has not been selected for Pride in Place funding,” he said.

“Highbridge is a town with huge potential, but it faces real challenges on the high street and in the local economy, and many residents will feel that their community has once again been overlooked.”

He added that the Government’s claim that funding is being targeted at areas with the greatest need does not reflect the reality on the ground.

“Anyone who spends time in the town and speaks to residents and businesses can see that regeneration support would make a real difference,” he said.

Mr Fox said he will continue pressing ministers to ensure Highbridge is considered in future funding rounds.

“I will continue making the case in Westminster for investment in Highbridge,” he said.

“The town deserves the same opportunities as other communities that have benefited from regeneration funding, and I will keep pushing for the support needed to help Highbridge realise its full potential.”
