Burnham-On-Sea Brownies invited James Heappey along to their latest meeting on Monday (November 18th) as part of their Parliament week and Future Girl badge to hear about his experiences in Westminster as MP and his views on recycling.

The girls asked Mr Heappey wide-ranging questions about parliament and reducing plastic during his visit, which comes in the run-up to December’s General Election.

James answered a range of questions from the girls featuring reducing the use of plastics, fixing local pot holes, and one asking about how old he was when he wanted to become an MP. He answered: “My mum will tell you I was five years old, but I was 32 when I first became interested in becoming an MP – at five I probably wanted to be a Rockstar or a pilot!”

His interest in reducing the carbon footprint echoed to the girls, who have been working hard on their recycling badge and future girl badge which focus on reducing the use of plastic.

James also reminisced with the girls about how his mum and sister used to be in girl guiding.

5th Burnham Brownies are looking for volunteers to help their Brown Owl and Tawny Owl continue to provide fun and meaningful activities to young girl guiders aged 7-10 years old.  If interested in volunteering contact Burnham-On-Sea.com and we will put you in touch.
