A Burnham-On-Sea jet ski enthusiast has returned back to the UK after receiving treatment for head injuries in a hospital in France following a serious accident at the weekend.

Roy Downing came off his jet ski on Saturday (October 5th) during a visit to the Bordeaux area and was left unconscious before he was air-lifted to hospital, as we reported here.

After several days of surgery and treatment, he travelled back to the UK on Wednesday (October 16th) in a private ambulance and is now recovering at home.

Wife Mel, who travelled back with him, said: “It feels like we’ve been here a lifetime and words can not explain the way I feel that I got to come home with my husband.”

“I can’t describe the emotions, thoughts and feelings that I’ve faced, along with everyone else that loves Roy. The support from more people than I can ever imagine has been beyond incredible. I have so many people to thank for getting us through this.”

She added: “Finding out a loved one has been in a serious accident in another country are words you never expect – or want – to hear. Many times it’s been hard to speak, eat and sleep.”

Roy had several hours of surgery earlier this week after suffering head and face injuries and is now back home in Burnham-On-Sea.

Mel added: “There are lots more challenges ahead, but at least we are back in England and will be surrounded by amazing friends and family.”

She thanked the Tommy Dream Foundation for all their support and for setting up a Go Fund Me page to help Roy and the family. “We are all completely overwhelmed by people’s generosity,” added Mel.
