Calling all crochet and knitters! Plans are afoot to create a huge knitted labyrinth in the grounds of Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church as part of its 700th anniversray celebrations.

The church is looking for 10cm-wide metre lengths in any colour, and any stitch which will all be joined together and the labyrinth created in the church grounds on the afternoon of June 14th, during a special themed afternoon.

Lengths can be dropped off at the church between 11am-4pm daily, or at the Crafty Teacup Cafe in Victoria Street during opening hours.

Rev Sharon Eldergill, Curate of St Andrews, says: “Labyrinths are ancient forms of sacred paths accessible to all; walking the labyrinth provides space for meaningful reflection in a busy world, assessable for the whole community.”

“Making the labyrinth from knitted or crouched lengths contributed from across the Parish makes the church labyrinth fun as well as meaningful, and I think marks it as part of something Burnham does best – a collaborative community venture.”

She added: “Please join in this exciting project, spread the word and get knitting to create a labyrinth that is as colourful as our vibrant Burnham community.”
