Lidl targets Burnham-On-Sea area in search for new Somerset store sites

-

Lidl has added the Burnham-On-Sea area to its national ‘wish list’ of potential new store sites, as the supermarket unveils hundreds of target locations across the country.

The latest list of Somerset locations where Lidl would like to open new stores is detailed in the supermarket’s site requirements brochure, published here on Monday April 27th.

Burnham-On-Sea has been added to a list of Somerset locations under the heading ‘Store relocation required’.

Burnham’s popular current store in Oxford Street, pictured here, could soon be joined by a second store in the area or the existing store relocated.

Lidl says it is actively searching for freehold, leasehold and long-leasehold sites, and is offering a finder’s fee for anyone who identifies a suitable new location that leads to a store being developed.

Richard Taylor, Lidl GB’s chief real estate officer, said the chain is pushing ahead with “one of the most ambitious store opening programmes of any supermarket,” adding that Lidl remains committed to expanding into more communities nationwide. He said every new store brings not only affordable products but also “opportunities for British suppliers” and support for “local good causes.”

Earlier this month, Lidl confirmed plans to open more than 50 new stores in the next 12 months as part of a £600million investment in its UK expansion.

No specific site has yet been identified in the Burnham-On-Sea or Highbridge area, but today’s announcement signals Lidl’s clear interest in securing a suitable location locally.
