Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge gymnasts have taken part in their first South West Competition since the start of the pandemic.

The event, organised by Monarchs Gymnastics Club in Highbridge, was attended by scores of young gymnasts and some great results were achieved.

Spokeswoman Mandy Warburton says it comes after a busy year for the club despite the pandemic: “We kept conditioning on Zoom classes nearly every day of the week during the pandemic and even trained in a field loaned to us by a very kind farmer for a few weeks before being able to get back into the gym and had such a lot of support from our parents.”

“We haven’t had very long to make up new partnerships and get into shape to be able to compete and wow did we put on an amazing show.”

“Our gymnasts and their coaches have worked so hard, not thinking a few months ago we would be anywhere near competition level, even up to two weeks ago we had to make a change to a trio and make them a pair to enable them to compete.”

“Most of the partnerships were new and some of the younger ones were competing for the first time.”

“We had many medal winners but every single one of our gymnasts excelled our expectations and most of all they all had the best time possible doing what they love.”
