A popular local sea shanty band has handed over an impressive £7,000 to Children’s Hospice South West following a year of performances and collections across Somerset and the South West.
The Beach’d Buoys, who regularly perform across the Burnham-On-Sea area, presented the cheque to Lucie Perryman, the charity’s Area Fundraiser on Friday (August 28th), during a visit to their regular rehearsal spot at the Brent Knoll Inn.
The group donates 100% of its fees and audience contributions to the hospice, and has now raised over £25,000 for the charity since Covid.
The band travels widely, performing at events large and small, and has built a strong following for its lively shanty sets and commitment to supporting local causes.
Members say they are proud to continue raising money for a charity that provides vital care for children and families across the region.
Wells and Mendip Hills MP Tessa Munt joined the band for the presentation and praised their dedication, saying it was a pleasure to be part of the occasion.
She added that the group’s fundraising achievements were “amazing” and that the donation would make a meaningful difference to the charity’s work.
